Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie

Located in the USA Diocese of Erie (Latin: Dioecesis Eriensis ) was dissolved as from the Diocese of Pittsburgh on July 29, 1853, and established as an independent diocese.

1949, 153 691 Catholics counting (20%) in 123 parishes with 199 diocesan priests, 103 religious priests and 915 religious sisters, the 25,724 km ² large diocese (26%) grew to 2002 227 162 Catholics in 126 parishes with 225 diocesan priests, 14 religious priests, 23 deacons and 459 nuns.

The diocese covers the areas of Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Venango, Forest, Clarion, Jefferson, Clearfield, Cameron, Elk, McKean, Potter and Warren.

Erie is a suffragan of the ecclesiastical province Philadelphia.
