Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria

The Diocese of Victoria (Latin: Insula Dioecesis victoriensis in Vancouver ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic diocese based in Victoria.

History

The Diocese of Victoria was born on July 24, 1846 by Pope Pius IX. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Oregon Territory erected as Diocese of Vancouver Iceland. On December 14, 1863, the diocese was part of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of British Columbia. A further transfer of territory took place on July 27, 1894 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Alaska.

The Diocese of Vancouver Iceland was on June 19, 1903 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to an archbishopric. This Archbishopric was renamed on September 6, 1904 in Archdiocese of Victoria and was downgraded by Pope Pius X on October 1, 1908 to the diocese.

The Diocese of Victoria is the Archdiocese of Vancouver is a suffragan.
