Roger Lawrence Schwietz

Roger Lawrence Schwietz OMI ( born July 3, 1940 in Saint Paul ) is Archbishop of Anchorage in Alaska.

Life

Schwietz joined the Congregation of the Oblates and received on 20 December 1967, the ordination.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 12 December 1989 Bishop of Duluth. As a motto he chose Jesus Christ is Lord. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, John Robert Roach, on 2 February of next year; Co-consecrators were Robert Henry Brom, Coadjutor Bishop of San Diego, and David Michael Pfeifer, OMI, Bishop of San Angelo.

On 18 January 2000 he was appointed Koadjutorerzbischof of Anchorage and introduced into the office on 24 March of the same year. Following the resignation of Francis Thomas Hurley he followed him on 3 March 2001 after Archbishop of Anchorage. Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 16 January 2008 as Apostolic Administrator of Juneau. This office he held until the end of the period of vacancy on January 19, 2009.
