Robert Newbery

Robert Frederick Newbery ( born January 2, 1979 in Adelaide ) is an Australian former diver. He started in the arts and diving as well as in the 3-meter and 10-meter synchronized diving. He won three medals at the Olympics and won a world title.

Newbery participated in three Olympic Games. In Sydney in 2000, he was 15 from 3 m Board, Tenth of 10 m tower, fifth with Mathew Helm in 10 m synchronized diving and he won bronze with Dean Pullar in 3 m synchronized diving. In Athens in 2004, he again took part in all four possible competitions. He reached the rank twelve 3m board and eighth of 10 m tower. He also won in both synchronous competitions bronze, of 3 m with Steven Barnett and 10 m with Mathew Helm. Beijing 2008 was ninth Newbery from 3 m board. He started again in both synchronous and competitions reached with Scott Robertson eighth from the 3 m board with helmet and fourth from the 10 m tower.

In the 2003 World Cup in Barcelona Newbery also managed a title. He won with a helmet in the 10-meter synchronized diving. In total he participated in four World Cups. His best individual result was a fifth place from the 3 m board in 2001 in Fukuoka.

Robert Newbery ended his playing career after the Olympics in 2008. He is married to Chantelle Newbery, also a successful water jumper, which was in Athens Olympic gold medalist in diving in 2004.
