Roberto Scarone

Roberto Scarone (* July 16, 1917 in Montevideo, † April 25, 1994 ) was an Uruguayan football coach and player on the position of full-back.

Life

Player

Scarone began his playing career in 1938 at his hometown club Peñarol Montevideo, where he was until 1940 under contract. In 1938 the team won under coach Athuel Velázquez the Uruguayan championship. He then moved to the Argentine first division club Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, where he stayed until 1943. He then played two years for the Mexican First Division clubs América and Atlante. With the last club he was 1946/47, Mexican champion. In the game year 1948 ended his active career in rows his Exvereins Gimnasia y Esgrima, where he first worked as a player-coach and then as head coach.

Coach

Over the next three decades he coached several clubs in Latin America and won a number of national and international titles. He was four times each Uruguayan and Peruvian and Mexican soccer champion once. He also won with his hometown club Peñarol, he coached in the years 1959 to 1961, twice the Copa Libertadores and one Intercontinental Cup. Furthermore Scarone coached the national teams of Uruguay and Peru.
