Robinson R44

The Robinson R44 is a four-seat, single-engine helicopter of the U.S. company, Robinson Helicopter Company with piston engine.

Generally

He is the larger version of the Robinson R22 and can carry four people. Here is equipped with a six-cylinder boxer engine from Lycoming. His TBO ( Time Between Overhaul = ) for engine, cell and major mechanical components is indicated by 2,200 h. A more powerful variant of the R44 turbine powered instead of the piston engine, is called Robinson R66.

Versions

At present ( 2010) are from the R44 versions Raven I (with petrol engine ), Raven II ( with fuel injection engine ) and which each have a Clipper version with special equipment for maritime operations ( such as swimmers and improved corrosion protection) offered.

Specifications

It is driven by the engine via four double V-belt with a reduction ratio of 0,778:1 to the transmission. This stocky means of bevel gears the main rotor in the ratio of 11:57 and translates the rotor balance in the ratio of 31:27.

Incidents

The mid -1990s, crashes piled with light helicopters for the technically related types Robinson R22 and R44, in which the main rotor to the fuselage or the tail boom collided. The Federal Aviation Authority then recommended, among other measures, the adjustment of flight operations with this type of helicopter. The recommendation has not been implemented based on our own considerations of the LBA, as amended technical instructions could reduce the risk of unfallursächlichen rotor -fuselage contact far enough.
