Rodels (Romansh Red ) is a municipality in the district Domleschg in the district of Rhein Behind the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

The hamlet lies on a terrace east of Hinterrheins on the western slope of the Stätzerhornkette. The municipality also includes the fraction Nueins. Of the total municipal area of ​​168 ha half is exactly suitable for agriculture. More 59 hectares are covered by forest and woodland. There are also 18 ha settlement area and 7 ha of unproductive area.

Languages

Original language of the population was Sutselvisch, a Grison Romanesque dialect. But already in the late 19th century saw a shift towards a language for Germans. While in 1880 62% of the population spoke Romansh, there were in 1900 only 52 %. In 1910 the community was tipped with 59.12 % and 40% German-speaking Romansh. The shrinking process of Romansh went slower rate until 1980 on. In the 1980s, began a recent decline, which meant that Romansh is now only of minor importance. This shows also the following table:

While 7.9 % of the population understand nor Romanesque, but is now only German authorities language.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 271 inhabitants were 260 ( = 96% ) Swiss nationals.
