Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso

Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso ( born October 17, 1968 in Azul ) is a former Argentine football player and current coach.

Career as a player

Cardoso began in his native Argentina in the EAC Azul to play football before he moved to the youth department of Estudiantes de La Plata. In the season 1989/90 he moved to Germany at that Bundesliga FC 08 Homburg. After this season Homburg had to dismount, and Cardoso played for the next three years in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Breakthrough in Freiburg

In the summer of 1993 he signed at SC Freiburg, who had just ascended for the first time in their history in the Bundesliga and in search of an offensive midfielder. In his first season was only just averted the descent of the Breisgau, although Cardoso scored 10 goals. But already in the following year surprised the team under coach Volker Finke, as the third place was achieved in the table. In this 1994/95 season the playmaker get 16 goals in 30 games, including two goals in the sensational 5-1 home win against Bayern Munich.

Their careers in Bremen and Hamburg

Because of these benefits Cardoso fell on the top teams in the Bundesliga, and Cardoso opted for a new change of club. For the 1995/1996 season, he spent six million DM to the Weser to Werder Bremen. There, however, he came down also due to injuries ( Cardoso fell immediately after joining in the run for several weeks because of a groin strain and a bruised hip from ) not as usual to use and finished this chapter after only 15 months in order in October 1996, a new start to start in Hamburg under coach Felix Magath. He was initially hired for DM 700.000 and bought in May 1997 for three million marks. But even here he could not go on his scoring prowess from his time in Freiburg, in 28 games he succeeded only two goals. The new coach Frank Pagelsdorf planned no longer with Cardoso and sorted it out. Therefore, Cardoso was awarded in the winter break of the season 1997/98 on the highly indebted Argentine tradition Boca Juniors for around 360,000 marks. After a few months later a sale to the Argentines was being considered, the club could not pay the required by the HSV transfer fee of 1.8 million marks. Then Cardoso was after only half a year lent at Boca Juniors at Estudiantes de La Plata.

Also, the club's management Estudiantes was offered after one year from Hamburg sporting director Holger Hieronymus for sale Cardoso. But this club could not finance the transfer. Finally tried unsuccessfully to convey Cardoso at clubs in Mexico and Greece. Although also clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt, Cardoso's former club SC Freiburg and Arminia Bielefeld were interested, but was not one of the clubs willing to take on the Hamburg offer in the amount of 1.5 million marks.

Unexpected Comeback

After it was not able to convey Cardoso to another club, had " inevitably " return to HSV Cardoso. But there he managed an unexpected comeback: He became the performers and audience favorite. In his first season of comebacks (1999/2000), he played 28 games, scored eight goals and led the team in the Champions League qualifiers.

Another five years he played for the Elbstädter, but was plagued by many injuries. He underwent four operations, three of them on the left knee. In 2000 he was able to win in 2003 with the HSV third place and fourth place. During this time he also was able to record his only title win of his career, the League Cup victory in 2003, where they defeated in the final Borussia Dortmund 4-2.

After he came due to several torn muscle fibers in the season 2003/2004, only nine appearances in the first team, he joined in March 2004 in the amateur team of Hamburg. He had seven missions and was able to achieve a goal.

Total Cardoso graduated 220 Bundesliga matches, scoring 47 goals.

National

The midfielder had eight appearances in the national team of Argentina and was a participant at the Copa America 1997 Bolivia.

Career as a coach

Cardoso launched after end of his career in 2004, the football school Norderstedt near Hamburg. When Hamburger SV he served first as U-19 head coach.

Since January 2009 he has been head coach of the second team (U - 23) of HSV. After the sacking of Armin Veh on March 13, 2011, he took over on an interim basis until the end of season the post of assistant coach. For the new season, he returned to the U -23.

Despite the lack of coaching license Cardoso was after the dismissal of Michael Oenning in September 2011 interim head coach of the first team. In his first game he led the HSV 23 September 2011 against VfB Stuttgart for the first win of the season. Beginning in June 2013 began Cardoso football teacher - training course of the DFB on the Hennes Weisweiler Academy in Cologne, alongside his work as a coach. Private life

2006 Cardoso was sentenced to a fine of 9,000 euros because of a fatal car accident caused. He had a motorcyclist taken the right of way, who died in hospital four days later.

Today he lives with his family in Hamburg.
