Rofla Gorge

The Rofflaschlucht (according to National Map also Roflaschlucht ) is a canyon of Hinterrheins between Andeer Bärenburg and Sufers in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. The gorge is situated at an altitude of 1100 meters and forms the border between the shams and the Rhine forest.

Below the gorge are the headquarters and the equalization tank Bärenburg the power plants Rhine. The gorge is therefore not crossed by the entire water of the background Rhine.

He decided to go back and make the Rofflaschlucht walked to open up the waterfall at the back of the valley for the audience.

In the winter months - in the summer, the family was busy with work in agriculture - between 1907-1914 blasted Christian Melchior with hand drills and explosives around 8000 a gallery from the rock to the waterfall and under the rear Rhine through. Christian Melchior was born in 1862 and died in 1940; his wife Maria lived from 1869 until 1941.

The house is since 1833 owned by the Melchior family. It was rebuilt and expanded several times and is now run in the 6th generation.

When Rofflaschlucht in the 19th century began the Old Averserstrasse. From today's national highway A13 from the gorge can only be guessed, who wants to see the guest house and more of the gorge, leaving the A13 at Bear Castle ( from the north exit Rofla, No. 26) or Sufers (from the south exit 27 ).
