Roger Lallemand

Roger Lallemand ( born January 17, 1932 in Quevaucamps, Beloeil, Hainaut, Belgium) is a Belgian lawyer, former politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS) and was for a short time President of the Belgian Senate.

Biography

After schooling, he studied philology and graduated with a licentiate. Another study of law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, he finished with a doctorate in law. After his admission he began in 1958 to work as a lawyer in Brussels.

His political career began late in the election as a member of the Senate, where he served as representative of the Socialist Party from 1979 to 1999. Between 10 March and 10 May 1988, he was briefly president of the Senate.

On April 3, 1990, he presented together with Lucienne Herman - Michielsens, a Senator of the Partij voor de Vrijheid Vooruitgang (PVV ), a bill that legalized abortion under certain circumstances. With the necessary majority, the Federal Parliament passed the necessary amendment to the Article 348, 350, 351 and 352 of the Penal Code, and the inclusion of Article 353 in the Criminal Code and thereby created at that time one of the least restrictive abortion rights in the world.

After retiring from the Senate, he was informed of this the title of Honorary President ( Erevoorzitter van de Senaat ). On 28 January 2002, he along with some other politicians beyond the honorific title of Minister of State was (Minister van State ) awarded. Thus he is an ex officio member of but since 1960 no longer convened Privy Council ( Kroonraad ).

Lallemand is also a member of the Masonic lodge Les Amis Philanthropes that belongs to the Grand Lodge Grootoosten van België.
