About the person
As a young man Vailland was in Paris co-founder of the literary and esoteric art group Le Grand Jeu. His years as a reporter he spent in Paris and Lyon. During the war he joined the Resistance; after the liberation, he traveled a lot. He wrote a number of dedicated books, including the awarded the Prix Interallié novel Strange Game (1945 ) and was awarded the Prix Goncourt novel Hart to Hart ( 1957). Vailland freely admitted to communism, but he lived retired in 1951 with his wife in the country. The novel 325,000 francs was a polemic against capitalism, which took a lot of encouragement.
