Roger Welch

Roger Welch ( born February 10, 1946 in Westfield, New Jersey, USA) is an American photographer, object and concept artist, video and Fimkünstler. He lives in New York City.

Life

Roger Welch studied until 1969 at Miami University and from 1969 to 1971 at the Art Institute of Chicago. He is considered a pioneer of installation art, video art and as a founder of the post-conceptual art movement narratives.

Welch used as an artist numerous media. He works with sculpture, watercolor painting and photography, installations, video and film, combining everything well together. He had in 1971 his first solo exhibitions at 112 Greene Street in New York, (performance ) and the Steel Gallery in Bridgehampton, New York.

It was followed by numerous exhibitions worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City; in the Albright -Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas and in the Museo Nacional in Havana. His works are included in major collections and major museums, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Georgia Museum of Art, Musée de Saint Etienne in France and the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City.

Roger Welch was with the film Portrait participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 in the Department of Individual mythology movie. He was also presented at Documenta 6 in 1977 in the Department of Photography.

Welch was awarded in 1974 and 1980 with the National Endowment for the Arts and in 1973 and 1976 with the New York State Council on the Arts Grants.
