Company History

The name Roland was selected because the company was looking for a name that should be sound in as many countries are phonetically identical and easy to remember.

The first products that has brought Roland on the market, a rhythm machine TR33, TR55 and TR77. The devices have been developed together with the organ manufacturer Hammond. In 1974, the RE -201 Space Echo, an analog echo effect, which is used by bands like Can or Radiohead today. Roland has had a huge impact on the Techno-/Elektro-Szene among other devices TR- 808 (1981), TB - 303 (1982) and TR -909 (1983). Specifically, the TB -303 was at the time of their appearance a flop. The Spartan Bass Synthesizer clearly sounded synthetic and was its actual purpose, the simulation of a real bass, do not meet. It was not until the late 1980s until the early 1990s took seed the techno scene, became the TB- 303 for cult device. In the Acid music even almost exclusively these devices were used. During the 303- hyped end of the 1990s, recovered slightly, the sounds of the TR -808 and TR -909 are also present today in electronic music. In the early 1980s, Roland created with the Jazz Chorus JC- 120 has a legendary guitar amplifier for clean sounds that could be provided with a high quality built-in chorus effect.

Roland is still a major manufacturer of musical equipment, especially in the electronic sector. Founded in 1996 by Roland MC - 303, the class of a groove boxes (a mix of sequencers and synthesizers). The Fantom G shares with the Yamaha Motif XF and the Korg M3 the market of tips keyboard workstations. The synthesizer from the Jupiter and Juno series, the SH -101 and other devices considered classics in their fields.
