Rollin B. Sanford

Rollin Brewster Sanford ( born May 18, 1874 in Nicholville, New York, † May 16, 1957 in Loudonville, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1921 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Jonah Sanford was his great-grandfather.

Career

Rollin Brewster Sanford attended public schools. He graduated in 1893 at the Albany High School, 1897 at Tufts College in Medford ( Massachusetts) and 1899 at the Albany Law School. After receiving his license to practice law in 1899, he began practicing in Albany. Between 1901 and 1906 he served in the New York National Guard. He then worked 1908-1914 as Attorney ( prosecuting attorney ) in Albany County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1914 for the 64th Congress Sanford was the 28th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Peter G. Ten Eyck on March 4, 1915. He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1920, he retired after March 3, 1921 from the Congress.

After his conference time he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1921 and 1940 he was in the New York State Board of Law Examiners. He died on 16 May 1957 in the Village of Loudonville ( Town of Colonie ). His body was then buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.
