Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju

The Archdiocese of Gwangju, Kwangju also, (Latin: Archidioecesis Kvangiuensis, kor. 천주교 광주 대교구 ) is a located in the southwest of South Korea Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Gwangju.

History

The Archdiocese of Gwangju was posted on April 13, 1937 by Pope Pius XI. established as Apostolic Prefecture Kwoszu. First prefect was Eugenio MacPolin SSCME. In 1950 the prefecture was renamed Prefecture Apostolic Gwangju; In 1957, Pope Pius XII. the conversion to the Vicariate Apostolic of Gwangju. John XXIII. raised on 10 March 1962, the Vicariate of the Archdiocese of Gwangju today.

The bishoprics of Cheju and Jeonju were annexed as suffragans.
