Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mwanza

The Archdiocese of Mwanza (Latin: Archidioecesis Mvanzaensis ) is a metropolitan diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Mwanza, Tanzania.

History

Forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Mwanza is on July 13, 1894 from the Vicariate Apostolic of North Victoria Nyanza out established Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Victoria Nyanza. The company name of the Vicariate changed in Victoria Nyanza (1915 ), and finally on April 10, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. the Apostolic Vicariate of Mwanza, the on March 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. was raised to the bishopric. On November 18, 1987, the foundation of today's Archdiocese of Mwanza by John Paul II took place.

Suffragan dioceses are Bukoba, Bunda, Geita, Kayanga, Musoma, Shinyanga and Rulenge - Ngara.

In 1998, the St. Augustine University founded by the archdiocese and the TEC Tanzania ( SAUT ) and 2005, the Weil- Bugando University College of Health Sciences ( BOOK ). Precursor was the 1960 built by the Order of the White Fathers Nyegezi Social Training Centre, in 1983 on the initiative of Bishop Joseph Blomjous renamed Nyegezi Social Training Institute ( NSTI ). From 1975 the school was with over 2500 students by Renatus Butibubage under the patronage of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference ( TEC ).
