Roman Catholic Archdiocese of N'Djamena

The Archdiocese of N'Djamena (Latin: Archidioecesis Ndiamenanus ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in N'Djamena and includes regions in southern Chad.

History

On January 9, 1947 the Vicariate Apostolic of Fort -Lamy was founded (now N'Djamena ) out of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic of Khartoum and Foumban and Berbérati Prefecture. On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate was elevated to diocese, and on 22 December 1961 on the archdiocese. From 15 October 1973, the Archdiocese was the new name of the Chadian capital N'Djamena. On May 17, 1951, the Vicariate Apostolic of Fort -Lamy were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Moundou. For more territorial concessions were made on 22 December 1961 on foundation of the diocese Fort - Archambault and on 1 December 2001 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Mongo.
