Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nanning

The Archdiocese of Nanning (Latin: Archidioecesis Nannimensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Nanning in the People's Republic of China.

History

Pope Pius IX. founded with the Breve Simul ac the Apostolic Prefecture of Guangxi on August 6, 1875 annexations of the Apostolic Prefecture of Guangdong. On 6 June 1914 she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

The name Apostolic Vicariate Nanning took it on 3 December 1924. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Metropolitanerzbistum.

1984, the secret was consecrated Bishop Joseph Meng Ziwen, but considered him the state authorities has always been only as a simple priest and did not recognize his episcopal authority. He died on 7 January 2007 at the ripe old age of 103 years. 2003 Joseph Tan Yan -quan was ordained Coadjutor Bishop, who succeeded him as Archbishop of Nanning.

Since December 2002, the official Chinese Catholic Bishops' Conference has brought together the four particular Churches to the archbishopric of Guangxi Guangxi. For the Chinese authorities since 2003 Joseph Tan Yan -quan the official Archbishop of Guangxi, while it is only Archbishop of Nanning for the Holy See since 2007.
