Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Songea

The Archdiocese of Songea (Latin: Archidioecesis Songeanus ) is a location in Tanzania Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Songea.

History

The Archdiocese of Songea was established on November 12, 1913 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of Dar es Salaam as the Apostolic Prefecture of Lindi. On December 15, 1927, the Apostolic Prefecture Lindi was by Pope Pius XI. raised to Abbatia nullius. On 22 December 1931, the Territorial Abbey Lindi was divided into two territorial abbeys: The newly formed Territorial Abbey Ndanda and renamed Territorial Abbey Abbey Peramiho Lindi. On February 16, 1968, the Territorial Abbey Peramiho were parts of their territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Njombe. The Territorial Abbey Peramiho was born on February 6, 1969 by Pope Paul VI. downgraded with the Papal Bull Quod Sancta for ordinary abbey and slammed the diocese territory the newly established Diocese of Songea.
