Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suiyuan

The Archdiocese Suiyuan [ Hohhot ] (Latin: Archidioecesis Soeiiuenensis; Chinese:绥远,呼和浩特) is a located in the People's Republic of China diocese of the Roman Catholic Church and Metropolitan seat.

Under Pope Pius IX. was on 21 December 1883, the Apostolic Vicariate of the Southwest Mongolia [ Mongolia Occiduo - Meridional ] (Ch西南 蒙古) from the Vicariate Apostolic of Mongolia (Chinese蒙古) founded out. First Episcopal Vicar was Alphonse de Voss CICM Belgian. Under Pope Benedict XV. in 1922 renamed as Apostolic Vicariate Suiyuan [ Hohhot ]. On 1 May 1922, the Vicariate Apostolic of Nanking was founded. By Pope Pius XII. was raised the Vicariate for today Suiyuan [ Hohhot ] on April 11, 1946; first archbishop was Ludovicus Morel CICM.

The archdiocese assigned the suffragans Ningsia [ Yinchuan宁夏], Siwantze [ Chongli - Xiwanzi西 弯子] and Tsining [ Jining集 宁].

Due to the political situation, the archbishopric was after the death of Francis Wang Xue- ming in 1997, the only one recognized by the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop, until today no longer be filled.

Bishop Leon Yao Liang died in 2009, who spent over 28 years in prison.
