Roman Catholic Diocese of Ajmer

The Diocese of Ajmer (Latin: Dioecesis Aimerensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Ajmer.

History

The Diocese of Ajmer was founded in 1890 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the Archdiocese of Agra as a mission sui juris Rajputana built. 1891, the mission was sui juris Rajputana elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

On May 22, 1913, the Vicariate Apostolic of Rajputana was raised to the bishopric and renamed the Diocese of Ajmer. It was the Archdiocese of Agra is a suffragan. The Diocese of Ajmer announced on March 11, 1935 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Indore. On 13 May 1955, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Ajmer Ajmer and Jaipur. The Diocese of Ajmer and Jaipur was September 13, 1963 parts of its territory from the foundation of the Archdiocese of Bhopal. A further transfer of territory took place on 3 December 1984 foundation of the diocese Udaipur. On 20 July 2005, the Diocese of Ajmer and Jaipur was by Pope Benedict XVI. divided into the dioceses of Ajmer and Jaipur.

The diocese comprises the districts of Ajmer Ajmer, Baran, Barmer, Bundi, Kota, Jaisalmer, Jalaur, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Pali, Sirohi and Tonk in Rajasthan.
