Roman Catholic Diocese of Basse-Terre

The Diocese of Basse -Terre ( et Pointe -à-Pitre ) (Latin: Dioecesis Imae et Telluris Petrirostrensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Basse -Terre to Basse -Terre, an island of the Lesser Antilles in the Islands to the winds in the Caribbean, the overseas department of France Guadeloupe.

Pope Pius IX. founded on 27 September 1850, Diocese of Guadeloupe et Basse -Terre from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Martinique and imputed it to the Archdiocese of Bordeaux suffragan. On July 19, 1951, the diocese was given its present name. On September 26, 1967, it was the Archdiocese of Saint- Pierre and Fort-de -France is a suffragan.
