Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Fort-de-France
The Archdiocese of Saint- Pierre and Fort-de -France (Latin: Archidioecesis Arcis Gallicae et S. Petri o martinicensis ) is a Martinique, France, located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church. Metropolitan seat is Fort-de -France, with about 90,000 inhabitants at the same time one of the largest cities in the Lesser Antilles.
History
1850 the diocese as a diocese by Pope Pius IX Martinique. and founded the archbishopric of Bordeaux assumed as suffragan; first bishop was Etienne Jean François Le Herpeur. In 1967 the diocese was by Pope Paul VI. elevated to the Archdiocese of Saint- Pierre and Fort-de -France. First archbishop was Henri -Marie- François Varin de la Brunelière CSSp.
As Suffragan assigned to the archbishopric of Saint-Pierre et Fort-de -France is the diocese of Basse- Terre et Pointe -à-Pitre and the Diocese of Cayenne.
