Roman Catholic Diocese of Buta

The Diocese of Buta (Latin: Dioecesis Butanus ) is a located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Roman Catholic diocese based in Buta.

History

The Diocese of Buta in 1898 by Pope Leo XIII. from the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville of territory established as Apostolic Prefecture Uele. The Apostolic Prefecture Uele gave on December 18, 1911 from parts of their territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of East - Uele. On 18 December 1911, the Apostolic Prefecture Uele was renamed Prefecture Apostolic of Western Uele. The Prefecture Apostolic of Western Uele was posted on April 25, 1924 by Pope Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Ut in praefectura Apostolic Vicariate. On March 10, 1926, the Apostolic Vicariate of Western Uele were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Bondo. The Apostolic Vicariate of Western Uele was renamed on 10 March 1926 in Apostolic Vicariate of Buta. On February 22, 1937, the Apostolic Vicariate of Buta gave parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Lolo.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Buta was posted on November 10, 1959 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Kisangani is a suffragan.
