Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa (Latin: Archidioecesis Kinshasanus ) comprises the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, and the left bank of the Congo to the Kasai.

History

On September 22, 1886, the mission was sui juris founded in the Belgian Congo, which was collected on May 11, 1888 Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville. From 1934 to 1953, split into more autonomous prefectures Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic and with each new territories. On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville was elevated to archdiocese. Since the city of Leopoldville was renamed on 30 May 1966 in Kinshasa, also bears the name of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa.
