Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya

Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya ( born October 7, 1939 in Mongobele, Democratic Republic of the Congo ) is Archbishop of Kinshasa.

Life

Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya comes from a family that belonged to the royal families of the tribe of Basakata. The family name " Monsengwo " means " grandson of the traditional chief ."

From 1946 to 1951 he attended primary school in Nioki. 1951 Monsengwo Pasinya joined Bokoro in the seminary. Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya studied from 1957 to 1960 philosophy at the seminary of the Archdiocese of Kananga. In 1960 he was sent to Rome at the Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide. Monsengwo Pasinya studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Urban University. Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya received on 21 December 1963 in Rome by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Grégoire -Pierre Cardinal Agagianian, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese Inongo. 1964 acquired Monsengwo Pasinya at the Pontifical Urban University, the Licentiate in Catholic theology. From 1964 to 1970 he studied Biblical exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. In 1968 he spent a term at the Jerusalem branch of the Pontifical Biblical Institute. During this time Monsengwo Pasinya Modern learned Hebrew. Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya in 1970 at the Pontifical Biblical Institute with an exegetical thesis entitled " La notion de, Nomos ' dans le Pentateuque grec " ( "The term ' Nomos ' in the Greek Pentateuch " ) received his doctorate in theology. He was the first African who has a doctorate in Biblical exegesis.

From 1970 to 1971, Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya lecturer at the Faculty of Theology and professor of biblical exegesis Lovanium at the seminary John XXIII. in Kinshasa. He was from 1971 to 1972 professor of exegesis of the Old Testament, Hebrew, and Biblical Theology of the Old Testament at the University of Zaire. Monsengwo Pasinya was from 1972 to 1980 professor at the Theological Faculty of Kinshasa. He was also from 1972 to 1975 Assistant Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Zaire. On 13 February 1980, Pope John Paul II appointed Titular Bishop of Aquae novae in Proconsulari and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Inongo.
