Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling

The Diocese of Darjeeling (Latin: Dioecesis Darieelingensis ) is a located in Bhutan and India Roman Catholic diocese based in Darjeeling.

History

The Diocese of Darjeeling was born on February 15, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution In longinquis out of territory of the Archdiocese of Calcutta and the Apostolic Vicariate Tatsienlu as a mission sui juris Sikkim built. On 16 June 1931, the mission was sui juris Sikkim by Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Litteris Apostolicis to Apostolic Prefecture. The Apostolic Prefecture of Sikkim was posted on August 8, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quem ad modum to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Darjeeling. It was the Archdiocese of Calcutta is a suffragan. On 14 June 1997, the Diocese of Darjeeling were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Bagdogra.

Territory

The diocese comprises the Darjeeling Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal and the state of Sikkim and Bhutan.
