History

The Diocese of De Aar was born on March 24, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. out of territory of the Diocese of Aliwal built as Apostolic Prefecture of De Aar. On April 13, 1967, the Apostolic Prefecture of De Aar was by Pope Paul VI. applicable to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Cape Town is a suffragan.
