Roman Catholic Diocese of Aliwal
The Diocese of Aliwal (Latin: Dioecesis Alivalensis ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Aliwal North.
History
The Diocese of Aliwal was posted on June 12, 1923 by Pope Pius XI. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Cape of Good Hope, erected as Apostolic Prefecture Gariep. On January 27, 1936, the Apostolic Prefecture Gariep was by Pius XI. elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic Vicariate and renamed Aliwal. The Apostolic Vicariate of Aliwal was on January 11, 1951 from parts of its territory to the creation of the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Aliwal was posted on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. applicable to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Cape Town is a suffragan. On 24 March 1953, the Diocese of Aliwal were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of De Aar.
