Roman Catholic Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi

The Diocese of Islamabad - Rawalpindi (Latin: Dioecesis Islamabadensis - Ravalpindensis ) is a location in Pakistan Roman Catholic diocese based in Rawalpindi, a city in the Pothohar Plateau in the province of Punjab.

History

The Diocese of Islamabad - Rawalpindi was by Pope Leo XIII. Founded in 1887 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kafiristan and Kashmir from the diocese of Lahore out. Pope Pius XII. raised the Prefecture in 1947 to the diocese of Rawalpindi. 1952 territories were ceded to the founding of the Indian Jammu - Srinagar Prefecture. By Pope John Paul II, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Islamabad - Rawalpindi today.

The Diocese of Islamabad - Rawalpindi is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lahore.

In Rawalpindi 1949 by the Missionary Society of St.. Joseph Mill Hill today's St. Mary's Academy ( SMA ) was founded.
