Roman Catholic Diocese of Parma

The Diocese of Parma (Latin: Dioecesis Parmensis, Italian: Diocese of Parma) is located in Italy Roman Catholic diocese based in Parma.

History

The Diocese of Parma was built in the 4th century and was under the Archdiocese of Milan, suffragan. Middle of the 5th century, it was placed under the Archbishopric of Ravenna. On August 10, 1058 Parma Cathedral was destroyed by fire. Outside the city was started in 1059 on the site of an early Christian basilica with the construction of a new cathedral. The cathedral was completed in 1074 and consecrated in 1106 by Pope Paschal II. On January 3, 1117 it has been damaged by an earthquake and had to be rebuilt.

In 1582 the diocese of Parma was the archbishopric of Bologna is a suffragan. On May 26, 1806, the applicability of the Archdiocese of Genoa and on 30 March 1818 was the diocese of Parma to the name immediately diocese. Since August 14, 1892, Bishop of Parma additionally bears the title of the abbot of Fontevivo. The Holy See directly under standing the diocese of Parma was placed under the Archdiocese of Modena - Nonantola suffragan on 8 December 1976.
