Roman Catholic Diocese of Salem

The Diocese of Salem (Latin: Dioecesis Salemensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Salem.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maius religionis on May 26, 1930 annexations of the dioceses Kumbakonam, Mysore and of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry, where there was also a suffragan.

On 24 January 1997 it lost part of its territory to the Diocese of Dharmapuri.

The diocese comprises the districts of Salem, Namakkal and Salem in Tamil Nadu.
