Roman Catholic Diocese of Umtata

The Diocese of Umtata (Latin: Dioecesis Umtatanus ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Mthatha (formerly Umtata ).

History

The Diocese of Umtata was posted on March 30, 1930 by Pope Pius XI. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Mariannhill built as Apostolic Prefecture of Umtata. On April 13, 1937, the Apostolic Prefecture of Umtata was by Pius XI. elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Umtata was posted on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. applicable to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Durban is a suffragan.
