Roman Catholic Diocese of Mariannhill

The Diocese of Mariannhill (Latin: Collis Dioecesis Mariae seu Mariannhillensis ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Mariannhill.

History

The Diocese of Mariannhill was born on September 10, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. from the Apostolic Vicariate of territory Natal built as a Vicariate Apostolic of Mariannhill. On March 30, 1930, the Vicariate Apostolic of Mariannhill was from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Umtata. A further transfer of territory took place on April 8, 1935 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Mount Currie.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Mariannhill was posted on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. applicable to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Durban is a suffragan. On 21 February 1954, the Diocese of Mariannhill were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Umzimkulu.
