Roman Catholic Diocese of Xianxian

The diocese Xianxian (Latin: Dioecesis Scienscienensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Xianxian in the People's Republic of China.

History

Xian was the seat of the Catholic mission of the Jesuits (SJ ), which later also featured all the bishops.

Pope Pius IX. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Südostzhili on May 30, 1856 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Nordzhili or Beijing. On 3 December 1924, took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Sienhsien on.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following Apostolic Prefectures:

  • May 24, 1929 at the Apostolic Prefecture Yongnian;
  • March 11, 1935 at the Apostolic Prefecture Daming;
  • April 24, 1939 at the Apostolic Prefecture Kinghsien.

With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Diocese. The Chinese government gave him the name Diocese of Cangzhou. In 2006, the diocese celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding. In 2005 it had 75,000 Catholics, 206 churches and chapels and nearly 100 priests.
