Roman, Romania

Roman ( German Romesmarkt, Hungarian Románvásár ) is a town in the Romanian region of Moldova and is located 46 km east of Piatra Neamţ in Neamţ county.

They had about 69,500 inhabitants in 2003 and is located at the confluence of the rivers Siret and Moldova. It is generally believed that the name comes from the Roman princes I. Muşat (reigned 1391-1394 ), the city has possibly established.

History

  • The first traces of the mention of the city one can find 1387-1392 in the Novgorod Chronicle.
  • 1392, the city is mentioned in a document Moldovan.
  • 1408 established Alexandru cel Bun ( Alexander the Great ) in the town a bishop 's seat.
  • Ştefan cel Mare ( Stephen the Great ) built a new fort on the left side of the river Siret and replacing the old, consisting of earthworks plant.
  • 1476 stormed the Turkish army led by Mehmed II the new fortress; the importance of the Principality of Moldavia waning.
  • 1675 The stone fortress is of Dumitraşcu Cantacuzino, just like all the other fortresses of Moldova destroyed.
