Romanian general election, 1996
The presidential elections in Romania in 1996 took place on 3 and 17 November 1996. In the first round were Ion Iliescu of the Party of Social Democracy of Romania ( PDSR, today PSD) and Emil Constantinescu, the candidate of the " Democratic Convention " - a larger middle-class party alliance - the most votes. In the run- up Constantinescu won against Iliescu.

Second round of elections on November 17, 1996
- Eligible voters: 17,230,654
- Votes cast: 13,078,883 ( 75.9 %)
