Ronnbergia petersii

Ronnbergia is a plant genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae within the family Bromeliaceae ( Bromeliaceae ). The range extends from Costa Rica to Colombia, northern Peru and Brazil.

Description

The Ronnbergia species are epiphytic and terrestrial living, evergreen, perennial herbaceous plants. They form by stolons stocks. Some species look similar Neoregelia species. Derbe leaves sitting on a compressed stem axis and form the funnel, where often water is collected. The simple, parallel venation, tongue-shaped leaves have smooth to spiny toothed leaf margins. In some species the leaves above the leaf sheath are narrowed stalk -like. The leaf surfaces are simply drawn and have green or on the underside of leaves pressed- dandruff hair.

The inflorescence stem is often more or less short, which has little or no surmounted in some species (eg Ronnbergia neoregelioides, Ronnbergia nidularioides, Ronnbergia petersii ) of the inflorescence leaf hopper. The bracts are usually inconspicuous. The simple, eared inflorescence is dense to loose. The sessile, pentacyclic ( five petal circles), hermaphroditic, radial symmetry blooms are triple. The three most blue petals do not have scales at their base. Three carpels are fused into one inferior ovary.

Flowers formula:

The at maturity often intensely colored berries contain numerous seeds. A peculiarity occurs in Ronnbergia blow dens, giving her epithet rather because its ripe berries with a loud bang, so explosively detached from and spray out the slimy coated seeds.

The botanical genus name Ronnbergia honors the director for agriculture and horticulture in the Belgian Ministry of the Interior Auguste Ronnberg.
