Rosalio José Castillo Lara

Rosalio José Castillo Lara SDB Cardinal ( born September 4, 1922 in San Casimiro, Venezuela, † October 16, 2007 in Caracas, Venezuela ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Rosalio Lara was born into a Catholic family and entered the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco in his school years and studied the subjects of philosophy and Catholic theology. In 1949 he was ordained a priest by his uncle, Archbishop Lucas Guillermo Castillo Hernández. The following year, he worked in the management of the Lyceum of Los Teques before he was sent to Rome for the purpose of further studies, where he received his doctorate in 1953 at the Department of Canon Law. After returning to his native country he was elected president of the Association of Catholic educators.

From 1954 to 1957 he was professor of canon law at the College of the Salesians in Turin, from 1957 to 1965 at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. 1962 brought him a work and research within the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. 1971 elected him the General Chapter of the Salesians Plenipotentiary for the youth ministry.

1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Praecausa and appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Trujillo. The Episcopal ordination on May 24, 1973 He received his Cardinal José Quintero Parra.

In 1975, he was again summoned to Rome to work as secretary of the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law. Rosalio Lara was a member of the Pontifical Commission for the interpretation of the decrees of the Second Vatican Council.

1981 Pope John Paul II appointed him as President of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia, a year later, he entrusted him with leadership roles in the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law and appointed him titular archbishop. In 1984, the Pontifical Commission established for the authentic interpretation of the Code of Canon Law, the Pope appointed him to be their first president.

Rosalio Lara belonged since 25 May 1985 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Nostra Signora di Coromoto in San Giovanni di Dio the College of Cardinals to. From 1989 to 1995, he was responsible for the administrative management of the papal household from 1990 to 1997, he was President of the Pontifical Commission for the State of Vatican City. At the conclave of 2005, Cardinal grounds of age was not allowed to participate. He lived until his death in Caracas.

Together with the Episcopal Conference of Venezuela caused Castillo early 2006 for serious diplomatic upset with the state government by a defendant persecution of dissenters. In a pilgrimage of the cardinal criticized the leadership of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez spoke of signs of dictatorship and an unacceptable situation of human rights. Chavez spoke then of a Mitverschwörung the church and demanded an apology.
