Geography
Location
It lies in the southeastern part of the Department of Colonia in its sector 3 The distance to the eastern state capital Montevideo is about 130 km. Just 60 km west of Rosario is Colonia del Sacramento, the capital of the department. In addition there is the nearby towns of Nueva Helvecia (northeast) and Colonia Valdense (southeast), and the towns of Paraje Minuano ( southwest), La Paz ( south-east ) and Barker (northwest). To the east of the situated 18 m above sea level urban area also flows the Río Rosario.

History
Rosario was established on January 24, 1775 by Benito Herosa and is the only city of Spanish origin in the department of Colonia. On 17 August 1920, she was the legal regulation of the Ley no. Classified 7257 as Ciudad (city).
