Rosh HaAyin

Rosh haAjin (Hebrew ראש העין, Arabic روش هاعين ) is a city in Israel. In December 2007, the population was 37,800.

General Information

Rosh haAjin was founded in 1949 and received city status in 1994. The city has an area of 24 km ² and is located on the border between the Shomron, the Plain of Sharon, and the Shephelah in central Israel. It is 25 kilometers from Tel Aviv and is adjacent to Petah Tikva. Northeast of Rosh haAjin the " Afeq Industrial Park " is with companies in the software and telecommunications industries.

Every Friday in Rosh haAjin instead of a big flea market which attracts many visitors. In Rosh haAjin some archaeological sites are found; significant are particularly the ruins of Herod the Great built the city Antipatris and the south-east located crusader castle Mirabel.

Population structure

The population Rosh haAjins is divided into two parts. The inhabitants of the "old town " in the West are mostly Yemeni origin; among them are the original inhabitants of the city. The population of these districts is older and economically weaker. This segment of the population is also relatively religious; Signs at the entrances asking motorists not to drive on the Sabbath (although the roads are not closed on the Sabbath, such as Bnei Brak in ). In the 1990s, new neighborhoods were built on the hills in the east. Many of the living there are immigrants from the former Soviet Union, and had moved to Tzabarim. The inhabitants of the newer parts of the city are more aligned and formed secular. There is little contact between the two populations.
