Rosy McHargue

James Eugene " Rosy" McHargue ( born April 6, 1902 in Danville, Illinois, † June 8, 1999 in Santa Monica ) was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist of the Chicago jazz, swing and Dixieland.

McHargue learned to play the piano from 1920 to 1923 with his mother and also C- melody saxophone and clarinet. He made ​​his recording debut in 1922 with the orchestra of Roy Schoenbeck. He took the Seattle Harmony Kings (1925 ) on, Frankie Trumbauer (1931 ), Ted Weems (1934 ), with whom he played from 1934 to 1942, and Jimmy McPartland (1936). He also played briefly in 1925 after the departure of Bix Beiderbecke in the Wolverines. Then he went to Los Angeles, where he played in 1942 at Eddie Miller, 1943 Benny Goodman, Kay Kyser in 1943-1946 and 1947-1951 with Red Nichols. He also played with Pee Wee Hunt and Pete Daily. He recorded under his own name two years and led a band in the TV show Dixie Showboat ( 1950-1952 ).

In the 1990s he worked with jazz historians together in the reconstruction of old songs and their lyrics, took another 1992 ( with Stomp Off ) and played in the 1990s at jazz festivals.
