Rotsandnollen

Location

The summit of Rotsandnollens lies on the border between the Canton of Nidwalden and Obwalden. He belongs to the Alps Unterwalden and Lucerne and thus to the Alps Unterwalden ( subsection 14.III the SOIUSA classification).

He is the highest elevation of the community core, the highest mountain on the flanks of Saarneraatals and after the mountains in the exclave Engelberg ( Titlis with 3438 m, Tearing Nollen with 3003 m, Engelberg Rotstock with 2818 m and Wissigstock with 2887 m), the highest point in Obwalden.

Adjacent peaks are Huet floor with 2676 m in the north ( between the still somewhat higher, but lesser-known slope Horn with 2679 m), in the southwest of Barglen ( Schiben ), behind the Hohmad, and in the southeast the black horn and the gray floor.

The summit is marked by a stone pyramid.

Ascent

The Rotsandnollen can be climbed on trackless, but relatively easy terrain over the saddle between Barglen and Rotsandnollen. The tour is classified in the SAC - scale hiking with T6 or BG ( mountaineers ). At the saddle is also obtained through roadless terrain. Either of the Stöckalp in the valley, starting over from the underbody and the Wolfisalp or from the Bonistock resort Melchsee -Frutt. In this case, a bizarre karst field is crossed with impressive glacier tracks south of Rotsandnollens.

In winter, the Rotsandnollen is a worthwhile destination for snowshoers as well as for tour goers.
