Routan Islands

The two Routan Islands (formerly also Arautan, Russian Острова Роутан ) are the Tschaunbucht the East Siberian Sea off the northern coast of Siberia. The island group is separated by a about 4.7 km wide Sound of the City Pevek. It includes the 9.5 km long and 4.5 km wide island Bolshoi Routan (area 30 km ²) and the smaller 1.3 km long and 1 km wide island Maly Routan. The islands belong to Rajon Tschaunski of the Autonomous Okrug of Russia's Chukchi.

Europeans were the islands for the first time in 1821 known as Ferdinand von Wrangel charted the coast of eastern Siberia.

On Bolshoi Routan there is a small research station, the Bolshoy Routan hat.
