Royal Governor of Chile

The governor of Chile ruled the Spanish colony that was called back then as the Kingdom of Chile ( Reino de Chile). This area was also called the Captaincy General of Chile. Accordingly, the Governor of Chile was also the rank of Captain-General. Until 1776, he served as Chairman of the Real Audiencia of Chile also chief judge of the district.

During the Spanish domination Chile had in the time from 1540 until independence in 1817 a total of 66 governors.
