Ruché

The red variety Ruché is an indigenous species of the Piedmont region in northern Italy. It was probably imported from Burgundy in the 18th century in the Piedmont, where it is now almost exclusively cultivated. It is not known what species they were originally. Currently about 100 acres under vine are known.

After the rare variety was almost gone, actions were initiated for replanting in the 1970s. The efforts eventually led to the introduction of a small DOC named Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato.

The variety Ruchè provides aromatic wines with strong tannins in ruby red color with purple hues. The red wine has a fruity, floral bouquet with hints of violets and roses.
