Rudolph Boysen

Charles Rudolph Boysen ( July 14, 1895 *, † November 25, 1950 in Anaheim ) was an American plant breeder who named after him boysenberry, which is a cross between a loganberry Brombeerart and bred.

Boysenberry

Boysen experimented in Napa, California during the 1920's with various berry crosses. 1923 be named after him hybrid grew successfully and bore fruit. Unable to hit it commercial success, Boysen had his growing region on however, after he had suffered a vertebral fracture in an accident. As Boysen moved to Orange County, he brought his berry with yet. Years later learned the breeder Walter Knott of the boysenberry, Rudolph Boysen tracked down and managed to get out of the few remaining plants to build a successful breeding on his farm in Buena Park, which from then on was called Knott 's Berry Farm. Knott was also notified of the berry after its breeder.

Life

Boysen was married to Margaret Bruton, their son, Robert Boysen Matt came in 1924 to the world. Rudolph Boysen worked from 1921 to 1950 as a park ranger in Anaheim, he died at the age of 55 years and is at Melrose Abbey Cemetery buried in Anaheim.

Honors

In Placentia is the " Boysenberry Lane " and Anaheim both the " Boysen Avenue " and the are named " Boysen Park " by Rudolph Boysen.
