  • Mechthild ∞ Burchard II Count of Hohenberg († July 14, 1253 struck by lightning ); their daughter Anna Gertrude (* 1225, † February 16, 1281 ) was the wife of Rudolf I of Habsburg.

Life and work

After his brother Hugo 's death Rudolf II represented the Palatinate Count's house. He comes from 1224 in many imperial documents as Count Palatine ago, while his brother Wilhelm next to him merely Graf writes. Rudolf II was the founded by his parents Bebenhausen, as evidenced by several documents minded benevolent. In addition to his father Rudolf II is the most abundant in imperial documents Count Palatine of Tübingen, in documents of the already in its 8th year ( 1220 ) King of the Romans chose Henry VII, son of Frederick II, who predominantly in Italy was staying while his son remained in the home country of Swabia, and later, after he had fallen out with his father in 1232, all mustered to win the Swabian Great for itself. These seem to have heard of Rudolf II, at least he is mentioned in 10 records of the Son comes, in no single of the Father, and even then against the son, when he appeared openly against his father. In the energetic character of Rudolf II is to assume that he will have, used as others, many years of absence of the emperor and the desire of the Son, to draw the Swabian Great on his side to extend his power and the creation of a free position possible.

Pfalzgraf Rudolf II and his brother William were on January 8, 1224 in Henry VII in Worms, with other Great, Count Hartmann of Wirtemberg and a Count of Dillingen, on April 5, 1227 in Oppenheim and on May 1 in Haguenau together with Hermann margrave of Baden, Eberhard, Steward of Waldburg, who was well known as guardian and adviser of Henry VII great contributions to Swabia. In the same year he met Ludwig, Duke of Bavaria and German Regent and the taverns Konrad von Stetten Winter, who sat in the council of the young prince at the same time. On February 23, 1228 he was in Ulm with the men to Neuffen and the Reich Marshal Anselm of Justingen. On August 31, 1228 he appeared with the Margrave of Baden, Henry, Earl of Wirtemberg, a Count of Dillingen, the above councils, Konrad von Weinsperg as a witness in a document by which Henry VII the privileges of the monastery Adelber to Esslingen confirmed, and in the same year and in the same place in four certificates of Duke Ludwig of Bavaria and Bishop Ekbert of Bamberg, among other things beside Hermann, Margrave of Baden, Ulrich and Eberhard, Count of Helfenstein, Eberhard and Otto, Count of Eberstein, Gottfried von Hohenlohe and the two Councils.

On April 29th 1231 he was on the shiny Reichstag Emperor Frederick II at Worms with many bishops, dukes and counts, including Albrecht von Habsburg, Friedrich von Zollern, a Count of Eberstein. Rudolf stood in the pecking order at the top of 8 counts. On November 22, 1231 he and his brother William with Count Albert von Rottenburg ( Hohenberg ), Ulrich von Helfenstein and Eberhard von Walpurg with Heinrich in Ulm. Together with his brother William he sealed on December 31, with Conrad, Duke of Teck, Hermann, Margrave of Baden and the other a deed that made Henry exhibit the monastery Neresheim to Wimpfen. For the last time, he joined with King Henry VII on June 4, 1233 Eßlingen next to his brother William on.

When Pope Gregory IX. 1235 the princes of the Empire calling for an armed train to the Holy Land, to succor the beleaguered church, happened to Rudolf II 's admonition, and although he is the only Swabian Great, who is mentioned in the warning letter. Whether he has done in the invitation of the Pope result is not known. The fact that he is not mentioned from 1235 to 1243, could make the assumption of a prolonged absence likely. Strikingly, it also appears that in the history books no news about it is included, what position Pfalzgraf Rudolf II has taken in the battle of King Konrad with the opposing King Henry Raspe, in part, the scene was all the more Swabia thereof. The training certificate that issued the papal legate in favor of the monastery Bebenhausen at the request of Rudolph the camp before Ulm on 28 January 1247 is likely to emerge, however, that he has been on the side of the anti-king.
