Ruslan Basiev

Ruslan Bassijew (Russian Руслан Басиев; born June 20, 1979) is an Armenian wrestler North Ossetian origin. He became in 2009 Vice European Champion in free style at heavyweight (up to 120 kg body weight (bw ).

Career

Ruslan Bassijew arrived in Vladikavkaz in North Ossetia to the rings. He developed there at a size of 1.88 meters to a full blown heavyweight of almost 120 kg body weight. He wrestles exclusively in free style. By 2005, he wrestled for Russia. He never could in those years but quite reach the absolute top in Russia and were no inserts in the international championships. However, an insert in the tournament of the Cuban wrestler in Sancti Spiritus association is known from the year 2005. Training was or is Bassijew Ruslan, who now lives in Yerevan, Aslan Gabarajew or Araik Bagdassarian.

In 2006 Ruslan Bassijew moved from the Russian Wrestling Federation over the Armenian. He then started also the same for the European Championships in Moscow, where they lost even his first fight against Bojadschidar Bojadschiew from Bulgaria, which he already retired after the former Regulations and finished only 14th place. Much better it ran for him at the World Cup 2006 in Guangzhou, China. He defeated there Ivan Ishchenko from Ukraine, Jose Cuba Vazquez from Spain, Otto Aubeli from Hungary and Recep Kara from Turkey and only lost against the Olympic champion Artur Taymazov, a starting Uzbekistan Ossetian compatriot and thus won the bronze medal in the heavyweight division.

At the European Championships in 2007 in Sofia and at the 2007 World Championships in Baku Ruslan Bassijew won his first fight in each case, but different in both championships after defeats in the second fight. In Sofia he lost it against Fatih Çakiroglu from Turkey and Baku against Marid Mutalimow from Kazakhstan. He finished in the places nine and twelve.

He achieved a similar result at the 2008 European Championships in Tampere. He retired after a defeat against Bachtijar Akhmedov of Russia from early and came on the 11th Place. In two subsequent Olympic qualifying tournaments in Martigny / Switzerland and in Warsaw he succeeded not with places ten and fourteen, to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

But he did not gave up, and fought at the European Championships 2009 in Vilnius with wins over Sergei Djonins from Latvia, Dawit Otiaschwili from Georgia and Wassyl Tesmenezkyj from Ukraine into the finals, where he lost to Ali Isayev from Azerbaijan to points and so vice-European champion. At the World Championships in Herning / Denmark and also in the international championships in the years 2010 and 2011, Ruslan Basijew could not place it in the front of the field.
