Ruslan Provodnikov

Ruslan Mikhailovich Prowodnikow (Russian Руслан Михайлович Проводников, English transcription, Ruslan Provodnikov Mikhailovich, born January 20, 1984 in Berjosowo ) is a Russian professional boxer and current world champion of the WBO light welterweight.

Amateur career

As an amateur he won 130 of 150 fights. His greatest successes were winning the fifth cadet 2000 European Championships in Athens, and winning the 6th Brandenburg Cup 2001 in Frankfurt ( Oder). In the two contests he scored victories against Nikolay Grišuņins from Latvia, Denis Litvinenko from Ukraine, the German representatives Alexander Müller and Robby Siebert, as well as the Indian Olympian Diwakar Prasad.

Due to strong competition in his home, more large international appearances were denied him. He was defeated at national elimination fights including against vice world champion and Olympic champion Eduard Absalimow Alexei Tishchenko.

Professional career

In 2006 he became a professional and won his debut on December 3 in Yekaterinburg by unanimous decision against Kirill Artemiew. Also his next twelve fights he could win, including eight by knockout. Among the defeated opponents included the undefeated Brian Gordon ( 4-0) and Abdulaziz Matasimow ( 7-0). Then he pushed on November 28, 2009 in Samara against Victor Hugo Castro at the Intercontinental Championship WBO light welterweight, had the Argentines already in the first round on the ground and eventually won by KO in the second round.

In his very next fight on February 12, 2010 in Temecula, he defeated former IBF world champion Javier Rogelio Jáuregui by TKO in the eighth round. In May of the same year, he also won by TKO in the ninth round against Emanuel Augustus. In the fight for the IBF North American championships on January 7, 2011 in Las Vegas, but he was defeated by Mauricio Herrera on points. In April 2011, he won early against Iván Popoca ( 15-0 ).

On 5 December 2011, he secured the Asian championship title the WBC unanimous decision over former WBO world champion DeMarcus Corley. After two more victories against David Torres ( 21-2 ) and Jose Reynoso ( 16-3 ), he qualified for a world championship bout against WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley. Prowodnikow could stock up his opponent repeatedly with heavy impact hits and had Bradley in rounds 1 and 12 on the ground, but lost to the full twelve rounds disputed on points.

On 19 October 2013, defeating in the light welterweight Mike Alvarado (34-1 ) in Denver through task after the tenth round and became the new world champion of the WBO.
